The last 6 weeks

About 6 weeks ago, we went to IHOP to try out their new funnel cakes.  Big thumbs down!  They tasted like burnt grease...yuck!  I had strawberry topping on mine and got all of 3 strawberries (cut in half so I had 6 bites of strawberry.) And for the priviledge of eating burned grease, we had to pay $7.00.  We definitely won't be having that again!

Moving forward a couple of weeks, we went on vacation to Florida.  While at Ft. Myers Beach, we found a Kilwin's candy shop.  You can't go wrong at Kilwin's!  Everything there is delicious!  Christina says it's the best chocolate she's ever had.  She had a chunk of milk chocolate while I had a dark chocolate covered pretzel.  Yum!  It's too bad there's no Kilwin's anywhere near Rome!

Today we went to Honeymoon Bakery and had a chocolate chip cookie.  (Christina had a coupon for a free cookie from the library summer reading program.)  We were expecting a warm, soft cookie with lots of chips.  What we got was a hard, cold cookie with only a few chips.  It tasted good though.  I can imagine that when the cookies are right out of the oven, they're fabulous!

Kittens?!

no we didn't go to a Chinese place for dessert haha.  We had just left to go get dessert when we found two tiny kittens by the side of the road.  They were teeny tiny and weren't shy so we took them back home.  As fate would have it they were covered in fleas and starving, so daddy started to bathe them.  Anna Rose decided to name the quiet one Fuzzy.  Things were going well until Fuzzy was laying down and wasn't moving.  we rushed some Karo into her system but she is still looking rough.  Her sibling, Ninja, on the other hand is quite a fighter, and rather vocal.  We will have to see how they are doing in the morning but in short, no dessert tonight xD

2 months... wow.

so lets just get this out in the open... we FAIL at this whole "regular update" thing. so sorry.
Well it has been about 2 months since our last post however in our defense we haven't really had a lot of time for dessert what with all of our tripping and such.  We don't really remember when we had these or what order they were eaten but hey, here ya go.

we had some wonderful chocolate pie thanks to Shelley here at home.
we went over to the Olive Garden where Shelley had some kind of chocolate cake something-or-other that was fantastic while I enjoyed the dark chocolate dessert shooter thing.
We took a trip to the Red Lobster where Oscar recommended the chocolate wave, and for good reason.  absolutely AMAZING and "just the right amount ice cream" according to Shelley :)

here is where we began to do our tripping.  I was off on my youth group's Choir Tour while Shelley took a shopping weekend in Pigeon Forge and then went to a bachelorette weekend trip to St. Simon's.
I had my dessert in Philadelphia at the Redding Terminal.  There is a little place in one of the back corners just called "chocolate" (any TUMC yutes know where I'm talking about) where I got some chocolate covered Oreos.  they were totally "omg" worthy

Shelley on the other hand got some strawberry short cake at KT's in PF.  It was awful.  she talked to the manager and ended up getting a chocolate Carmel cheesecake in exchange.
On St. Simon's however she went to Barbra Jean's and tried the chocolate stuff which apparently IS the stuff.  I got a picture.  I was quite jealous.

Finally, back home we went to Jandy's with Clay and Anna Rose to enjoy some frozen yogurt.  I won't go into the details of what we four had but it was amazing all around. :)

well there is our speedy catchup for the last two months xD thanks for sticking with us :)

Home cooking

haha so we're doing sooo much better at these updates.  Last week (for unremembered reasons) Shelley and I could not leave in order to get our desserts so we improvised and made our own.  we made chocolate cookies.  The PLAN was chocolate chocolate chip cookies but someone (coughcoughshelleycoughcough) messed it up.  BUT THATS OK! because i think they were even better.

if you want the recipe we used, here ya go!  http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Chocolate-Chocolate-Chip-Cookies-III/Detail.aspx

Chili's

We're not doing so well at consistently writing our findings.  Will try to do better in the future!  Two weeks ago we went to Chili's for dessert.  Since we were both PMS-ing, a giant chocolate dessert was required.  We ordered the Molton Chocolate Cake...one of my favorites.  A warm chocolate brownie filled with a gooey hot fudgey center served with vanilla icecream and topped with chocolate sauce was the perfect dessert for that week!  And this time there was just the right amount of icecream.  We had no trouble finishing it off!  As well as having a fabulous dessert we were entertained by the outfits and hats the servers were wearing.  It seems there was a clown there earlier in the evening who had made balloon hats for them.  We're not sure, though, why they were wearing Mardi Gras beads...since it was the middle of lent.

Catch Up!

Friends! Romans! Countrymen! Lend me your computer screens!

Whoooooo! This post has been quite some time coming! I apologize greatly for the delay friends but fear not! We come bearing new reviews!

Let’s see, where did we leave off? Ah yes, four weeks ago Shelley and I took a trip to the lovely Landmark restaurant, located next to the mall.  Shelley had plain cheesecake with strawberry topping while I enjoyed the Oreo cheesecake.  While our local cheesecake connoisseur did not fall in love with her cheesecake, I found mine rather enjoyable.  “It wasn’t great” is the only thing I can get out of her about it.  While I don’t usually like cheesecake, I did enjoy what I ate of mine.

For our next stop we venture to the far off land of Virginia.  Daddy dear joined us for this dessert night.  Craving a piece of pie, we found ourselves in a little café called the Thunderbird Café in the little town of McGaheysville.  Shelley and Dad had the apple pie, but I was craving something a little sweeter, so I went with the chocolate pie.  They get nothing but good marks from this girl!  ALL of the pies were homemade (and we could tell) and fresh from the refrigerator / microwave for the warm apple pies.  I assume Shel and Dad enjoyed theirs because all I heard for about the next 7 minutes was “mmmmmmmm.”  I am pleased to report mine was to die for! It was so rich I didn’t think I would be able to finish it! However the waiter challenged me by SAYING I couldn’t so then, of course, I had to.  ;)

For week 4 of our quest, we were back home and decided to go with Santa Fe.  We ordered the caramel apple wraps.  Their menu describes this tasty treat as “Stovetop apples rolled in a flour tortilla, lightly fried then sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar, drizzled with caramel and served with a scoop of Blue Bell® Ice Cream” and oh mah goodness was it fantastic! Shelley says it was delicious but with an unneeded scoop of ice cream.  (I am beginning to see a theme here, are you?)

Finally! I have managed to catch you up and bring you back to this week.  Last night, we girls were looking for something light after my tap class, so we decided to hit up Schroeder’s Deli on Broad Street.  Shelley ordered (are you ready for this?) a cheesecake and I got the cinnamon yeast roll.  Shelley could say nothing bad about her weekly treat.  It was small, but just the right size for a quick pick-me-up.  She said she LOVED it.  As for mine, it was equally yummy! A small square yeast roll (looked like Sister Shubert’s but I love those too so I’m not complaining) covered in cinnamon.  I only got one so it was small, but also just the right size.  HOWEVER! They charged us 15 cents each for water.  Shame shame Schroeder’s! shame shame…

Well! What a rant this has been! Until next week, stay sweet!

Introductions and Applebee's

Hi!
Having a passion for chocolate (or anything sweet really) Christina and I have decided to thoroughly investigate the city of Rome for the best tasting desserts.  That and the need for some "girl time" prompted us to start a weekly dessert night.  After a few weeks of desserts, my computer savvy teenager came up with the idea of publishing our findings for those of you too dedicated to nutrition to eat delectable desserts every week.

This week we sampled the Chocolate Chip Cookie Sundae at Applebee's, which came highly recommended by our server, Josh.  Delicious!  The cookie was warm and soft topped with two scoops of icecream, whipped cream, hot fudge, and Oreo cookie crumbs.  The menu screamed "share and share alike" since there is no way one person could eat it all by oneself.  It was just right for two, though!  The only problem (if you can call it a problem) was that there was an unneccessary scoop of icecream.  One scoop of icecream was plenty for the size of the cookie.  We left the entire second scoop on the plate sans whipped cream, of course.   Thanks for the reccommendation, Josh!  It was everything you claimed...plus an extra scoop!
